Holding the barrel upside down while curling your hair is the best way to use the wand. Wrap each section from the base of the wand to the ends, in the direction you would like your hair to flow, for the best results.

For lived-in, voluminous waves: use a reversed tapered wand and alternate the direction in which you curl each section. Or, if you have fine hair, try curling every section away from the face, with the exception of the hair right in front of your ears and below your temples.
